Good evening…nearly 12am — I am ready for NaNoWriMo -2017. My characters have been patient — there are only 20 minutes and 12 seconds before I can let them fill the blank pages to start this year’s novel-writing-challenge. Yes, writing is just like any other business that goes from month-to-month then quarter-to-quarter to wrap up each fiscal year only to start fresh with new goals and objectives. I consider November the begining of my writing year. My goal is to win strong – by exceeding 50,000 words. This will give me the momentum I need to meet my annual writing goals. Enough said…my characters are ready to “start the show”! Time for me to start the engine on my laptop and keep my fingers glued to my keyboard for 30 days to finish this first draft novel. Happy writing!

Good Evening! “When the student IS ready – the teacher WILL appear!” This year I decided to look for new inspiration to help me stay motivated during my fifth year novel-writing-journey. My search lead me to a new teacher. Whilst browsing the stacks at my favorite library – I stumbled upon a book by an author I never read before, This Year You Write Your Novel, by Walter Mosley – This book was published in 2007 – at which time Mr. Mosley had written 25 books and multiple articles. This student is ready to learn from an author with a body of work such as his. I have taken pages of notes, already….Ah, I am highly impressed by this author’s writing style in the examples he provides throughout the book. The instructions he is providing are, likewise, AMAZING! We have 3 hours, 24 minutes, and 3 seconds left before NaNoWriMo begins…just enough time to run to your nearest Barnes and Noble – or – Half Price Books and purchase your copy too. This Year You Write Your Novel is a powerful – but easy read – 102 pages – “less than 25,000 words” – size 12 font makes it easy on the eyes too. Once you get your hands on this book, take a peek at his example on character development – pages 43-44 – I promise it will inspire you too! In fact, I want to read the entire story about ‘Bob‘ after I finish writing my novel. Lol. This year I choose Mr. Walter Mosley to be my teacher, vicariously, as he guides me via his book, This Year You Write Your Novel. I feel strongly, with this book as my guide, I will have a richer first-draft novel. Let’s win this year’s writing challenge!

Good Evening! It’s year five for me! Thirty-day-novel-writing-challenge starts in just 6 days, 3 hours, 52 minutes, and 15 seconds…but…who’s counting! I keep asking myself…”Why do I keep doing this every year?” What started as a divergence has led to a conviction! I now look forward to each November 1st to arrive on my calendar! I join many hundred thousands of amazing writers on this journey to reach our goal of 50,000 words in only thirty days! The most valuable gift taking the annual NaNoWriMo novel-writing challenge has provided me — is that I have become a better writer than I was five years ago — in many ways! NaNoWriMo has allowed me to identify my writing strengths and weakness. I embrace the challenge — eagerly excited to discover what I shall learn this year. I have several goals I want to achieve by the end of NaNoWriMo 2017:
- To Win! Yes, I am in it — to WIN it!!!!!
- To exceed last years total word count – over 50,000
- Conflict! Conflict! Conflict!
Much success to all of you amazing writers!
