Writer Deliberating Definition of Done

Good morning! Pondering…what does it mean to be ‘done‘ – for a writer?….At what stage of the editing process does a writer enter the “done phase” of their story? Webster defines ‘done‘ as – “completed”. Hmmm…I sure thought I had met this definition with my story. It felt complete, it really did! Spoken like a true rookie writer! Lol. I think I need to add a little more ‘patience’ to my writing journey. Completing a book is beginning to feel a lot like cooking lasagna. I am learning that there are many layers in this writing stage. I am also learning that to allow my book to be really good, it takes time – Comparing the hours it takes to allow all the seasonings and cheeses to blend together in the cooking of delicious lasagna. {I’m feeling a little hungry now! Lol. Back to writing} My gut tells me that I need to face a hard fact – the final stage, and most delicious layer, of editing really could take a year or more(Argh!). Is this the reason many famous writers turned to drinking?!? Just curious! Well, I am going to drink a cup of “patience” tea and get back to my final layer of editing, as I continue deliberating the definition of “done” as a writer. Would love to know how you, more experienced writers, have endured this phase of your writing journey.
